A reminder that (weather permitting) the Deben Challenge will take place 31st March. 11 club members have accepted the challenge and will row the navigable length of the Deben twice, starting from Felixstowe Ferry at 9am, rowing up the river to the iron bridge and then all the way back to the start again.Do come and cheer us on from the banks near the clubhouse or at the Wilford Bridge (eta 10.30-11am), even if you aren't able to take part. Those of us that are still standing by the evening will also be having a celebratory drink or two in the Cherry Tree (Woodbridge), so do join us to hear all about it!!

Despite the worst possible "warm down" after 22 miles rowing, John Churcher and I are ready to get back to the river. Warmest thanks for our rescue from the icy clutches of the North Sea are due to the DRC shore party, the guys at Felixstowe old port (who saved the taxpayer a bundle by standing down the helicopter), the East Anglian Ambulance Service, the Coastguard and Ipswich Hospital. Sorry about the boat, Terry - after we were washed out beyond the end of the sandbar our priorities altered! On the plus side, part 1 of the DRC safety mantra ("STAY WITH THE BOAT!") helped turn a crisis into a drama. Thank goodness that Son of the Deben status is for life and does not need to be renewed!
